The "Quality and Industrial Development" seminar was organized on the 10th and 11th of November 2005 by the IRI and the International Union of the Engineers and the Scientists using the French Language (UISF), under the patronage of the ministry of Industry and the ministry of Economy and Trade, with the collaboration of the Association of Lebanese Industrialists, the Order Of the Engineers and LIBNOR with two French institutes AFNOR and LNE.

This seminar's objective is to sensitize the industrialists in Lebanon to follow the Quality Standards.

The Director General of the IRI, Dr. Bassam Frenn, announced that "Quality is an obligation without which the companies cannot promote their products".

His Excellency M. Pierre Gemayel, the Minister of Industry, stressed on the fact that "the competition right by the price is not sufficient and than, it is necessary to be directed towards a better quality of the product".

Mr. George khoury, General manager of the Ministry of Industry, found that the everlastingness of the industries can only be assured by the export. The fast adoption of International European Standards is necessary to cover the insufficiency of the standards established by LIBNOR.

However the financial assistance is not enough by itself. An industrial reform is necessary, especially to create channels of communication with the private sector. According to the representative of the EU, M. Thomas MOULLIER, the Lebanese should stop considering the tertiary sector as single economic source and the public authorities should have their word said in this matter. According to Fadi Abboud, president of the Association of Lebanese Industrialists, the accreditation is important and it is also necessary to train of the manufacturers.
