The Industrial Research Institute organized a Level 1 Non-Destructive Testing training course in its facilities and laboratories from May 14 to 26, 2007. Attending this course were participants from Arabic countries including Tunisia, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Yemen, Jordan, Sudan, Iraq and Libya, making it the first training course with participants from such a large number of nations.
The first part of the two-week training session consisted of the theoretical aspects of non-destructive testing, while the second part focused on the practical aspects. The exchange of technical expertise and exposure to the problems encountered by welders when performing such tests. The training took place under the supervision of the president of the Lebanese Welding Center Eng. Tarek Hakim in cooperation with experts and engineers from the Industrial Research Institute, and with the participation of Dr. Mahmoud Shafy, from the Egyptian Atomic Energy Authority.
The training session concluded with a series of proficiency exams through which all of the participants were certified according to international standards for these particular tests. The Administrative and Financial Director of the Industrial Research Institute, Mr. Sélim Kfoury, stand-in for the Director General, Dr. Bassam Frenn, handed out the certificates to all the participants of this training session. Mr. Kfoury emphasized the importance of scientific collaborations between the Arab Atomic Energy Agency and the Industrial Research Institute and encouraged all the participants to continue to their journey of knowledge and collaboration.
