Paint Laboratory

The paint laboratory consists of various equipments that enable us to analyze the liquid paint coating properties, the paint application and film formation in addition to the chemical analysis.
The methods used are those stipulated by ASTM and ISO.

Liquid coating properties:
  • Coarse particles
  • Condition in container (skinning)
  • Viscosity: Ford Viscosity cups
    and digital Krebs stormer viscosimeter
  • Density
  • Dilution stability
  • Fineness of grind (Hegman)
  • Flash point (COC)
  • pH
Paint application and film formation:

  • Covering power
  • Drying time to touch
  • Hiding power (Pfund cryptometer)
  • Re-coating properties

Dry coating properties:

  • Adhesion (Elcometer, cylindrical and conical mandrels)
  • Aging by light exposure
  • Color
  • Flexibility and elasticity (cupping tester)
  • Freeze and thaw stability
  • Gloss development (20º, 45º and 85º specular)
  • Hardness (Sward type, Persoz and Konig, Buchholz, Shore A and shore D)

  • Impact Resistance
  • Resistance to spotting
  • Resistance to abrasion
  • Resistance to acids
  • Resistance to water
  • Scratch test (Clemen)
  • Scrubbability
  • Thickness
  • Washability

Chemical Analysis:

  • CaCO3
  • Lead
  • Phosphate
  • Pigment
  • Silicate

  • TiO2
  • Uncombined water
