Lebanese Cleaner Production Centre

The Lebanese Cleaner Production Centre (LCPC) was established in 2003 with the support of UNIDO, the Austrian Government, of the European Commission- LIFE Programme (EC-LIFE), and the Ministry of Environment in Lebanon.

LCPC is perceived by the different stakeholders as an independent and competent industry-concerned and environment-oriented centre of expertise in Cleaner Production (CP). Eventually, the centre aims to assist the Lebanese industrial enterprises to export their products in the wake of Lebanon’s efforts to access the World Trade Organisation. As Lebanese Small- and Medium-sized Enterprises (SME’s) reach out into the international market place, part of their competitiveness will depend on their ability to demonstrate their environmental sensitiveness in addition to offering quality products at competitive prices.

The LCPC premises are now located at the Industrial Research Institute (IRI) in Hadath- Baabda. LCPC is part of the UNIDO Network and is connected to its database.

LCPC objectives:

  • To empower industrial enterprises to design and
    manufacture products that meet growing consumers’
    demand for more environmentally-friendly products;

  • To open the access of local products to international
    markets thus encouraging economic growth;

  • To increase constructive competition among industrial
    establishments to improve the production process;

  • To reduce the adverse environmental impacts of
    industrial production thus responding to the
    requirements of sustainable development;

  • To help industries implement Environmental
    Management Systems.

LCPC undertakes three core activities namely:

  • Awareness-raising events
  • In-plant demonstrations
  • Training and capacity building
After several successes in the industrial sectors of Agro-food Canning, Dairy, and Paper &Cardboard sub- sectors, the LCPC has recently launched the CP concept to the Plastic Production and Recycling sector.
