Conformity Certification in Lebanon
Pre-Shipment Verification

On August 11th 2004, the Industrial Research Institute (IRI) of Lebanon began implementing the option of a Pre-Shipment Program of Conformity Verification. This Program is intended to provide safety for citizens of Lebanon and improve environmental health protection.
Under IRI supervision, the certification companies will carry out shipment inspections in the country
of export to verify the conformity of the goods in order for IRI to issue the required conformity certificate prior to the arrival of the goods to Lebanon. Exporters to Lebanon should present documents showing the conformity of their products in accordance with the specified Standards.
The pre-shipment verification program facilitates import customs transactions, minimizes further inspection and testing on arrival, thereby reducing the overall cost, possible delay of customs release and risk to re-export due to non-conformity of the goods.

Acceptable Organizations
All reputable domestic electrical appliances manufacturers usually manufacture their products to acceptable and known
international criteria. They usually also have their products tested and certified by recognized international organizations who make
sure the products meet the required performance and safety criteria.
Most governments, including Lebanon, require that products have evidence of conformity to safety and performance standards.
Internationally known and accredited laboratories are usually recognized and especially those listed as accepted laboratories on

Acceptable Conformity Documents
In order to confirm that products conform to the relevant standards, Exporters can provide copies of certificates or test reports that
show compliance evidence. Certificates or test reports issued by an accredited organization or laboratory are usually accepted.
